Worked example
An Open Men athlete running 5:30/km covers the 8 km in 44:00. Division-default stations add 34:36, and eight roxzone crossings at 45 seconds add 6:00 — a predicted finish of 1:24:36.
Common questions
- Should I use my fresh 1 km pace?
- No. Use the pace you can hold between stations, typically 20–45 seconds per kilometre slower than a fresh 1 km. Entering a fresh pace is the most common reason a prediction comes in optimistic.
- What roxzone time should I assume?
- Most age-group athletes lose 40–60 seconds per transition. Eight crossings turns that into five to eight minutes — usually the largest single block of unplanned time in a race.
- Do the station defaults match my division?
- Defaults are per-division starter estimates, not official standards. Replace them with your own numbers as soon as you have training data.
